Guide to the Best Parks in Clarksville, IN

Clarksville, Indiana, is the sister city of Louisville, Kentucky. Located on the north side of the Ohio River, Clarksville is at the heart of the Indiana-side metropolis. While there may be shops and activities in abundance, Clarksville has never lost its love for the great outdoors. You will find a surprising number of beautiful parks throughout Clarksville, with cozy parks close to home and a few natural wonders worth driving for.
Whether you're looking for a place to play ball, run with your dog, or plan a picnic, there are parks all over town, from sprawling nature preserves to little neighborhood playgrounds.

Ashland Park + Falls of the Ohio State Park

Ashland Park is the premier park in Clarksville, located on the gorgeous riverside of the Ohio River. Ashland Park has the best views of the river and the city skyline of Louisville across the river. The park itself features a playground, several covered picnic areas, and public restrooms. But what makes the park truly memorable is that it serves as the gateway to the Falls of the Ohio State Park, a verdant nature preserve with ancient fossil beds, hiking trails, fishing piers, and a nature discovery center.

Dogs are very welcome at Ashland Park and in the Falls of the Ohio State Park.

Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Park

If you're looking for a nature walk ramble surrounded by relics of a previous age, check out the breathtaking Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Park. The Bicentennial park is located on the riverside with a clear view of the McAlpine hydroelectric dam. The park itself is a blend of riverside shores, manicured trails, wild nature, and structures that have been standing longer than any of us have been alive. There is also a history-themed playground somewhere in the expanse.

Local fishing enthusiasts love this park, it's never too crowded and other anglers are always ready to lend a hand if your catch is just too big. You can walk the trails withyour dog and read the many historical plaques telling the story of the legendary Lewis and Clark adventures.

Colgate Park + Clarksville Cove Family Aquatic Center

Closer to the center of town, you'll find Colgate Park, 20 acres of green fields, trees, and community play equipment. There is a playground with swings, covered and sunny picnic tables, a basketball court, and four high-quality outdoor tennis courts. Dogs and families frolic together in these outdoor spaces.

Of course, what Colgate Park is best known for in the summer is the Clarksville Cove Family Aquatic Center. This community pool and water park is legendary, with wild slides, swimming, a splash playground, shady picnic areas, and a landscape of sunny deck chairs for summer lounging.

Origin Park

Origin Park is an adventure that features nature trails. It is managed by the River Heritage Conservancy, which is still developing the 430 acres for public exploration. The park occasionally hosts events and promises to become one of Clarksville's best parks in the next few years as development continues. It already features several excellent nature trails and wild vistas to discover for yourself.

Lapping Park

Lapping Park is a classic arboreal community park with a few surprising gems. The park is vast and tree-covered for adventures and nature hikes, with a playground, basketball court,  and picnic area nestled in the trees. There are a few trails you can follow and there are always a few residence enjoying the greenery. However, Lapping Park is a favorite location for events because of it's unique set of facilities.
In addition to an 18-hole disc golf course, you will also find horseshoe pits, volley ball courts, and legendary outdoor amphitheater where many private and public events are held. The grounds also contain Endris Lodge, an interior space booked for event planning. Dogs are welcome in all outdoor areas of Lapping Park.

Gateway Park + Little League Fields

Gateway Park is the pride and joy of Clarksville, featuring both a fantastic play complex and a direct connection to a spectacular Little League Complex. Gateway Park itself is a perfectly designed swooping family area, including an obstacle course, climbing playground, splash pad, and a grassy slide hill. In the center is the shady picnic pavilion where parents can watch a 360-degree landscape of play, with convenient restrooms nearby. There are swings and swinging benches along one side and a designated flat grassy area for casual sports ball activities and the occasional festival or bounce house bonanza.

Just next door, sharing a spacious parking lot, are the Little League Fields, a star of five fields and one practice field with a snack bar and restrooms in the center. The two parks work perfectly together, serving as a community hub and giving families a place to relax between games.
